Have you ever done a home improvement project? I suspect if you are homeowner you have. Even if you have not done the actual project yourself, but hired someone to do the project you understand where I am coming from. Honestly, you don't even need to be a homeowner. Maybe you purchased a piece of furniture that requires you put it together. For example, you bought this amazing bookshelf for your apartment. After all at the store it looked really good how hard could it be. Am I right? And then the project begins with so much excitement! You are excited to see how the space is transformed. And depending on the project itself you may be sleeping in another room, moving furniture, demo work, or a variety of other things.
That's where I am at right now friends. We are in the midst of replacing our entire main level of our house with new flooring. Thank goodness we hired a team to do this work, I don't think my husband and I have the skill set or the patience to work together on this kind of project. Our main level currently consists of hardwood flooring, tile, and carpet. We are replacing it all to have a cohesive look with something called luxury vinyl. Or actually it might be called something else I am not sure. I am really excited to see the outcome of the finished look.
In the midst of the work, which by the way is only day 3 the majority of the house is torn up. Dust is everywhere, and literally I don't know if I should sleep in my bedroom or downstairs. Our dogs are so confused as to what is going on. Its really entertaining. This is all part of the normal process and the team doing the work is amazing. But, lets be honest I like things put away. I am a neat and orderly kind of girl. Clutter contributes to major anxiety for me. So, how am I handling this process? Strangely, very well in fact. I believe its all the tools I have learned through studying with amazing teachers I am not stressed and the anxiety is really not present.
I found myself lounging in a chair outside late in the afternoon doing a live meditation with a young woman in Australia. Isn't that crazy? It was 8:00 a.m. her time and 4:00 p.m. my time, but we were meditating together. Meditation has been a huge component of relieving stress and anxiety for me over the years. Sometimes I meditate with others via an in person class or online. And sometimes I do my own meditation. Meditation helps keep me calm and realizing whatever storm, chaos, or clutter I am in it will pass. I don't think we have to meditate for hours. Of course that is amazing if you have the time, but lets be honest I am a busy lady. Yesterday afternoon, in my chair, outside with my new meditation friend from Australia we meditated. Hannah lead us through a 15 minute meditation. You can find her on instgram @_hannahweir_ And all the stress, all the worry, and any anxiety I had slipped away.
So, if you have never meditated I highly recommend you give it a try. I am hoping by the end of the week I can show you a completed photo of the project, but in the mean time here is one of the start of the project.
As for today, I am breathing and meditating my way thru the clutter.
